Congratulations to Mr. Rinker and Mr. Musto, Cherokee’s custodial supervisors, for being recognized as the February 2026 Employees of the Month!
As custodial supervisors, Mr. Rinker and Mr. Musto have many responsibilities. They have to oversee maintenance on many areas of the school, including the HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems, snow removal, the upkeep of the athletic fields, and more.
Mr. Rinker mentioned that they also have to “coordinate building repairs, oversee construction projects, and manage preventive maintenance on the various systems in the building.”
These responsibilities certainly come with challenges.
Mr. Musto noted that “dealing with many different personalities” is something he finds difficult.
Mr. Rinker said that a part of his job that challenges him is “handling situations like an emergency pipe leak that comes up during the day without disrupting students and staff” in addition to his typical duties, which usually include making a schedule for the custodial staff and making sure that everything is as it should be.
Mr. Musto said that for him, the most rewarding part of being a supervisor is “seeing people take pride in their work.”
For Mr. Rinker, it’s interacting with the other employees in his department. “They are great people who are dedicated to their jobs and enjoy working with each other, which makes for a very fun and satisfying work environment,” he explained.
Mr. Rinker has two sons, ages five and nine, and a Jack Russell Terrier named Gus. He enjoys spending his free time outside with them, and he also hikes and does projects on his yard and house. His favorite movie is Back to the Future, and his favorite TV show is Seinfeld. “I love the crazy situations the cast gets into,” he explained.
Mr. Musto is married to Italian teacher Mrs. Musto, has three children, two of whom currently attend Cherokee, and one of whom is in college. He likes to watch soccer games and hang out with his kids in his spare time. His favorite movie is Michael Collins, a film about an Irish politician and revolutionary by the same name, and his favorite show is Everybody Loves Raymond.
Cherokee’s environment is always safe and clean thanks to the leadership and dedication of Mr. Musto and Mr. Rinker. Though they often operate behind the scenes, the effort they put in is seen all across the school. This does not go unnoticed, and this recognition as Cherokee’s Employees of the Month is truly deserved.
