Inaugurated in March 2025, Cherokee’s “Multicultural Night” is a celebratory community event that takes place after Cherokee’s World Language Honor Society Induction Ceremony. For Multicultural Night, students are given the opportunity to create displays of different cultures (either their own or that of a chosen nation) to display at the event.
Cherokee’s World Language Honors Society is an academic organization that recognizes and honors students for their dedication to a world language (Spanish, Italian, Latin, or French) throughout high school. Inductees are honored with colored cords–each respective to their studied language–and printed certificates that detail their achievement.
This year, Cherokee’s second annual Multicultural Night took place on Thursday, March 19, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. in Cherokee’s South Cafeteria. Table displays were organized by members of Cherokee’s Asian Cultural Club (ACC), Spanish Club, Muslim Student Association (MSA), and Italian Club. Featured nations at the event included: Egypt, Spain, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Argentina, Vietnam, India, the Philippines, Ecuador, and Italy.
With the assistance of one to three volunteers, students signed up to create a table display under the guidance of a club advisor. Students are encouraged to have creative liberties with their displays, with common items at tables including food samples, refreshments, music, games, and cultural decorations. The event setup placed tables around the South Cafeteria, allowing attendees to walk around the Cafeteria while learning about different cultures, hearing about different nations, and trying new foods. Some of the delectable food displays at the event included Lumpias from the Philippines and Churros and Esquites from Mexico.
Cherokee’s annual Multicultural Night is a celebration of cultural diversity, providing students with a space to share unique cultures with their community. All are welcome to attend the event!
