Jon M. Chu’s highly anticipated “Wicked” sequel, “Wicked: For Good,” was released to American audiences on Nov. 21, 2025. The film is an adaptation of Act 2 of “Wicked The Musical,” and follows the stories of the two witches of Oz.
Here are two new things to expect in “Wicked: For Good.”
New Music:
Following the precedent of the first film, Stephen Schwartz and John Powell rescored the music of the original Broadway production to fit the more grandiose stage. Originally scoring the Broadway musical, Schwartz was able to edit his work and change the instrumentation and orchestration for the movie.
In addition to all of the tracks from the original Broadway show, “Wicked: For Good” showcases two original songs by Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande as Elphaba and Glinda, respectively.
Elphaba’s new song is entitled “No Place Like Home” and captures her feelings on being labeled as the “Wicked Witch of the West.” Clips of the song were released during NBC’s “Wicked: One Wonderful Night” special. In the clips, it shows Elphaba belting in the forest of Oz, in the midst of an animal escape.
Glinda’s new song, “Girl in the Bubble,” is a reflective piece on Glinda’s past choices and tribulations. In an interview on “Variety’s Awards Circuit podcast,” Grande details that the song is “a pivotal moment in Glinda’s journey. It shows a side of her we’ve never seen before…We get to see her make the decision that defines who she is.”
Marissa Bode also gets featured on the “Wicked: For Good” tracklist with her song “The Wicked Witch of the East.” Previously excluded from the original cast recording of “Wicked, The Musical,” fans will be able to stream the song for the first time.
New Costuming:
Paul Tazewell, the costume designer for both Wicked movies, took on the task of clothing the witches of Oz in new and unique ways. In the sequel, Tazewell gets to explore the evolving nature and maturity of Elphaba and Glinda, and he showcases it through their meticulously designed attire.
Elphaba adorns a black cloak and black garments that have become noticeably more tattered and torn since her appearance in the first movie. The changes parallel with her continued time spent in isolation in the forest, helping the animal movement, and working against the Wizard of Oz.
The blue and lilac swirls of Glinda’s bubble dress parallel her fairy-tale life in the Emerald City as a pawn of the Wizard. Contrasting her purely pink bubble dress, the blue and lilac represent her concept of self; she is conflicted still about Elphaba and the cost of her fame.
Other characters, such as Madam Morrible and the Wizard, also see changes to their wardrobes to reflect their journeys between the two movies. Madam Morrible’s immaculate wear shows her regality, power, and influence over the citizens of Oz and the weather. The Wizard’s colorful and discordant costume emphasizes his role as a showman, and ultimately a fraud.
Nessarose, Boq, and Fiyero’s clothing helps denote their role in the story.
Nessarose’s new look tells the story of her newfound austere rule over those in Munchkin Land, as she is the new tyrannical governor, while Boq has a strict uniform. Fiyero’s updated Gale Force uniform shows his seemingly prim and proper life in the Emerald City.
As a whole, while “Wicked: For Good” changes aspects from its source, its overall story and message will remain the same.
