Marching Band Students Preparing Their Program for the 2018-2019 Season

On Monday, May 20, marching band sign ups will take place at Cherokee High School at 7 pm. All of the students and faculty are welcoming and encourage anyone to join. It doesn’t matter how much experience someone has, anyone can be a part of it.

The marching band won the Group IVA State Champions title two years in a row: 2016 and 2017. Many people do not realize how much goes into making the show as there are many different aspects of the program. For example, the hornline and drumline play their instruments while they march on the field, and the pit is the stationary percussion section that stands at the front of the field with its equipment. Lastly, doing flag work, the color guard adds another crucial visual element to the show.

In addition to creating and learning a show that it performs at competitions, the band also plays in the stands during football games, including a half-time show on the field as well as participating in various parades and pep rallies.

Band is a family, and each season, a unique accomplishment is made. If you want to be a part of this family, come to Cherokee on Monday, May 20, at 7 pm to sign up. To find out more information, come to the band room (A100) to speak with a director, either Mr. Lynch or Mr. Stowman, or a band member. Anyone can choose any section to be a part of and there are many students as well as staff members who help those eager to try new things and improve.
