On Friday December 8th, Cherokee’s Student Council sponsored its annual winter blood drive in support of the Community Blood Council of New Jersey, an organization that distributes much-needed blood to hospitals in and around New Jersey.

Volunteers from the Community Blood Council of New Jersey set up the blood drive before donors arrive on Friday.

An event open to all Cherokee students and staff 18 and over, or 17 and over with parental permission, the drive began accepting donations at 8 in the Middle Gym, and continued until after 2. Nearly one hundred students volunteered to give blood, and 61 units of blood were collected from student and faculty donors for processing and distribution.

Another opportunity for students to donate blood will come when a second drive is held in the spring.
