D&G media productions arose from a “growing passion for media, production and sports media” (Italia Davies ‘25). Founders Italia Davies (‘25) and Nic Gatti (‘26) are the students behind the whole operation. You can often find them both filming at a wide variety of school events like this year’s spring show, High School Musical, or even an ice hockey game at the Flyer Skate Zone. They focus on taking and editing photos to promote and cover Cherokee’s wide range of activities both in and out of school.
Their idea to create a media company arose in the summer of 2024, when the two collaborated to bring to life an account that showcases Cherokee and its people. When asked what their main goal was, Italia says, “[we wanted] to film the action and bring it beyond highlights and photos.” They wanted to create something interactive that captured more than just the moment.
Both have been involved in Cherokee’s own Television broadcasting program that is taught by Ms.Brown. After three years of experience in this class, they felt confident enough to go beyond their comfort zone and produce content for the public. Although the two gained experience in this class, their passion is primarily driven independently– without the help of any teachers or faculty. They wanted their media to be produced strictly by students, for students, in order to accurately reflect their abilities.
The media company became successful after shooting content at Cherokee’s Friday Night Lights and spirit week, where students would get their pictures taken on the Instagram of D&G media productions. Moreover, Principal Donna Charles Worth asked to collaborate on a sports graphic with them as well as some promotional videos, reflecting their prominence in the school.
In the future, Italia plans to take what she has learned from Cherokee and D&G, to her college, Rowan University, in which she is majoring in sports communication and media. Nic on the other hand, plans to keep developing his skills here at Cherokee High School. He will most likely continue running D&G media productions with new opportunities and events. Overall, the goal for the future is to make more content.
Reflecting on their experience, D&G excelled in ways they never imagined and are so grateful for all the support they have received throughout the 24-25 school year. Make sure to check them out @dgmediaprods on Instagram!
