Attention all future freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors! Welcome back to the second article of a month-long series dedicated to helping YOU— the students at Cherokee— enter into some of the best honor societies our school has to offer. This week is all about Cherokee Technology Honor Society. In this article, we will discuss requirements, course expectations, and what this society is all about.
Academic Requirements:
There are a few simple requirements that you must meet in order to be eligible to apply.
- You must be a student in “Good Standing”
- You must be on credit status
- You must not have 2 or more suspensions in any given school year
- You must not have any academic suspensions:
- Plagiarism
- Cheating on a major exam
While you must be a junior or senior to apply, it is never too early to start checking off some of the courses that count towards your eligibility for this society.
Courses:
There are a plethora of courses that can count towards the three required classes in order to be eligible for this society. In order for a course to count, you must have earned an “A” as your final grade. If you are a junior or senior who wishes to apply, and you are currently enrolled in one of these courses, the course will count towards your three-course requirement if you received an “A” in your first semester.
Below is the list of courses that meet the three-course requirement. They are sectioned into Technology, Business, and Family and Consumer Science (FCS). In these sections, there may be groups of courses bunched together that fall under the same theme. There will also be “tracks” that you can take. These tracks are not mandatory to complete, but they require the completion of the prerequisite course, meaning you must take them in a specific order.
Technology Courses:
- Automotive Tech
- Architectural Design
- Car Care
- Engineering Design
- Home Improvement
- Tech. Today
- Drafting Track: Drafting and Design I, Drafting and Design II
- Electronics Track: Electronics Tech. I, Electronics Tech. II
- Digital Electronics is another course you can take, but is not a part of this track
- Photography Track: Photo I, Photo II, Photo III
- TV Broadcasting Track: TV Broadcasting I, TV Broadcasting II, TV Broadcasting III
- Woodworking Track: Wood I, Wood II, Wood III, Wood IV
If you are enrolled in Cherokee’s esteemed Project Lead The Way program, all 4 of these courses will count towards this society.
- Introduction to Engineering Design, Civil Engineering and Architecture, Principles of Engineering, Engineering Design and Development
Business Courses:
Most of these courses are singular, but you can also enroll in Cherokee’s 4-year accounting program. It is not a requirement to complete all 4 courses, but it sure can help.

- Interior Design
- Intro. To FCS
- Life Skills
- Fashion and Clothing Track: Fashion & Clothing I, Fashion and Clothing II, Fashion and Clothing III
- Foods & Nutrition Track: Foods & Nutrition I, Foods & Nutrition II, Foods & Nutrition III
- Child Development Track: Child Development I, Child Development II
Application Process:
In January of your junior or senior year, you will receive an email with a Google form to fill out if you wish to apply. You must look at the requirements before doing so, because that message is pushed out to all students at Cherokee. Applications are typically due on January 31.
If you are accepted, you will receive an email detailing your acceptance and the ceremony information. You MUST take part in the ceremony in order to become accepted into the Cherokee Technology Honor Society.
