Dress To Impress: A Comprehensive Summary
Dress to Impress is an online multiplayer game on the gaming platform Roblox. The premise of the game consists of dressing to impress. Let me explain. You are given a theme and 5 minutes to create an outfit that best fits the theme. After 5 minutes you walk the runway one at a time. While on the runway, other players will cast votes on other players’ outfits from 1-5 stars. 5 stars is given to those who you think have an original, on-theme, good-looking outfit, whereas 1 star would be considered garbage.
Themes
The themes in Dress to Impress can be normal, crazy, or even weird. For example, some of the most notable themes I have received are: Fall festival, Cake flavors, and Zombie apocalypse. They are out of the ordinary which makes it so fun to design an outfit correlating to the theme. I am not a creative person so I tend to not do well when it comes to a crazy theme; however, some players can put together an outfit that will audibly make you gasp.
Stars
The purpose of stars is to improve your overall rank in the game. Some ranks players can achieve in the game are: New model (0-49 stars), Fashionista (500-999 stars), and Top Model (which is the highest rank 25000+ stars). There are 8 ranks total indicating 8 different levels of skill.
Cash
While designing your outfit or finishing a fashion show, players will earn cash. This cash can be used to purchase cosmetic items in the game like a new dress or a fancy purse. It does not play a huge role in the game, but it is still desirable among players.
VIP
One caveat to this game is VIP. VIP is a subscription that players can buy to unlock better clothing in order to greatly improve the quality of their outfits (if they know how to). It costs 799 Robux which is $10 in USD. This is not to say that a good outfit cannot be created without VIP; I have earned first place numerous times despite not having VIP. It’s about knowing how to layer clothing and design a perfect outfit that is visually appealing while staying accurate to the theme.
Poses
One of the most notable things about this game is the dramatic poses. These poses are used on the runway to enhance the visuals of your outfit and make it seem more real. The most popular pose by far is pose 28. Pose 28 can be described as leaning back while holding hands behind your back.
Experience
This game is most certainly not for the lighthearted. On the runway, it can get pretty intense as other players may insult your outfit or critique your modeling skills. On top of all of that, the game is played by all ages and is filled with selfish people who score others lower in order to rank higher for the podium. Additionally, creating an outfit when you have so many clothes, colors, and hairstyles to choose from can be pretty overwhelming given only 5 minutes.
Dress to Impress has always been popular, but it has recently started trending due to an increase in memes/general interest in the game. Things like pose 28, “Lana lore”, or even Charli XCX BRAT collabs make this game so fun and enjoyable. The idea of modeling and getting to show off your fashion design appeals to a variety of ages. Most people who play it have a positive opinion of the game and feel it is worth giving it a try!
