The week of Feb. 12 was a high-stakes week in the seniors’ game of Spoons. Although a winner has yet to arise, this week was full of excitement and tension.
At the beginning of this week, there were only 15 players left out of the original 160. Typically, the Sunday before school means the release of a new target for each player remaining, but this week was different. There were no specific targets given out, making this week a complete free-for-all.
Each player still had to get at least one target out to remain in the game, but the 15 remaining players were all experienced, making that difficult. Going anywhere without the risk of losing your spoon is a challenge. There were many instances this week of players being cornered or otherwise ambushed by other players.
One of the 15 players remaining was Timmy Wolfe, who agreed to be interviewed about his experiences. For him, it was “really exciting being able to make it to the top 15. It certainly was a journey and an experience getting there though.”
Wolfe survived this week and became one of the six finalists. According to Wolfe, “the people left in the game [are] Nick Coupé, Will Carr, Luke Brown, Sean Hoffman, Sai Bhargav,” and himself.
Wolfe’s strategy that he would like to share with the Class of 2025 for next year’s game was to “try and get people out as early as possible, and to not go for them head on but to be as sneaky as [you can].”
Often, this late in the game, students will create compromises so the remaining players share the win to avoid the risk of losing. With six players remaining, it is still early to make such a compromise, but it will be interesting to see how the end plays out. How many seniors will be victorious this year?
The end of this game is almost here! Congratulations to all players who made it to the end of the fifth week!
