On Dec. 21, 2023, SZA, the widely known contemporary R&B artist, posted a photo of her hit album cover, “SOS,” on Instagram, celebrating the one-year anniversary of the beloved album.
Shortly afterwards, she posted a series of photos, all featuring her posing in various backgrounds, but all captioned “LANA.” Fans in the comments took this as the announcement they had begun to suspect was coming and were ecstatic, begging to know the release date and details of the album.
SZA has confirmed the album and that it will be a mix of re-recorded songs from her 2022 album “SOS” and new songs that she has assembled over the last few months.
She explained the idea to Variety Magazine in an interview: “It’s outtakes [from ‘SOS’] and new stuff, too — I added a couple of songs. It’s like a whole new project. It’s called ‘Lana’ — my name but, it’s the first tattoo that I ever got, when I was 13. It was 10 bucks a letter and I only had 40, so that that [sic] became my nickname for no reason. ‘Lana’ is really just the B-side of ‘SOS.’”
At this time, the singer has yet to announce an official release date and tracklist for the album. However, fans are anxiously waiting and anticipating what will happen next.
