Former Cherokee students Aiden DeMarsey and Anthony Foster ran for seats on the Evesham Township School Board this past year. The election took place on November 7, 2023. The vote was open from 6 am to 8 pm.
DeMarsey and Foster ran against three other competitors; Jaron Brown, Janis Knoll, and Flora Talmazan. DeMarsey and Foster came in as underdogs. Being only 19 each, they attempted to gain a say in their community.
The recent Cherokee graduates created an Instagram account named “fosterdemarsey4evesham”. They used social media to spread their campaign, show their support to their community, and connect with the younger voters.
They campaigned to help fix roads on populated bus routes, promote student mental health programs and services, and fight against state-aid budget cuts. DeMarsey and Foster believed that their perspectives could help to greatly improve the system. Both campaigners went through the Evesham Township School District and had an inside view of what would help the students and community the most.
Through all their hard work, Aiden DeMarsey won a seat on the school board. He is joined by Janis Knoll and Jaron Brown. Although Anthony Foster did not win, he has full intentions of re-running in the next year’s election.
