The national tour of the popular musical “Wicked” came to Philadelphia’s Kimmel Center this past November. The performances began on Nov. 1 and went to Nov. 26.
Olivia Valli leads the current production as Elphaba and is joined by Celia Hottenstein, who plays Glinda. Elphaba’s love interest, Fiyero, is played by Christian Thompson, and the man competing for the love of Glinda, Boq, is played by Kyle McArthur. The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and his accomplice Madame Morrible are played by Timothy Shew and Kathy Fitzgerald.
This is the second national tour of Wicked. The first began in 2005, and this production began touring in 2009. It opened on March 12, 2009 in Florida.
This 20-year-old musical brought many fans to the Kimmel Center. Many of the performances were almost sold out. Fans old and new came to hear classic songs like “Popular,” “I’m Not That Girl,” and “Defying Gravity.”
Although Wicked left the Kimmel Center after November, the Tony Award-winning musical still performs in New York City at the Gershwin Theater on Broadway.
