Who is Moon Knight?

When a new character is announced to be joining the line of now-iconic MCU characters, a large number of fans research what comic they originated from, who they are, and if they’ve had any previous Marvel appearances before they watch their new show or movie. “Moon Knight” is no exception to this idea. The new Disney+ show “Moon Knight” was announced in Aug. 2019 and the first episode was released on the platform on Mar. 30, 2022.

Moon Knight is a comic book character created by Doug Moench and Don Perlin and first appeared in Marvel comics in “Werewolf by Night” issue 32. Moon Knight, his real name being Marc Spector, is a military veteran who almost died in a desert in Egypt before being saved by the God of the Moon, also known as Khonshu. He moved to New York and started fighting crime with his second chance at life. Marc also suffers from a dissociative identity disorder that developed in childhood after a traumatic and violent event.

Marvel’s new approach to Moon Knight will be played by Oscar Isaac, who is known for his role as Poe Dameron in the newest “Star Wars” trilogy and Leto Atreides in the 2021 movie “Dune.” He has been quoted as calling his character “the first legitimate Marvel character study since Iron Man,” and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has stated that Marvel has “pushed the boundaries” of the MCU with this latest series.

Moon Knight is a character who often has worked alone in the past stories and comics, but with open space in the Avengers after the events of “Endgame,” there are questions in the air as to if Marc will be joining the main team.

Since the first trailer appearing during the Super Bowl, many fans are already discussing the new series and where it will leave the future of the MCU. “Moon Knight” is streaming now on Disney+.
