People Will Finally Scream For Scream 5!
On Nov. 25, 2020, I wrote an article talking about horror movies coming out and what we could expect. A year later, we can confirm that Scream 5 (now called Scream) will be released in theaters on Jan. 14, 2022. The trailer was released on Oct. 12, 2021, and includes many familiar faces I’ve talked about in my article. Now let’s take a deeper look into this trailer and see what we can expect now that this movie is ready for theaters. (Spoilers ahead!)
The trailer starts with Tara Carpenter (Jenna Ortega) in a reference to the iconic classic opening of the original movie from 1996. Ghostface calls a girl that’s home alone and stalks her, harasses her, and then finally kills her. The only difference between Tara’s character and Casey’s is that Tara appears to be younger looking and is surrounded with a lot more items for her survival such as a smartphone instead of the home phone that Casey had used. Tara also has a smart security system set up, which includes a button that instantly locks/unlocks all of the locks in her house. After some harassment from Ghostface via phone, we are left with a cliffhanger about her survival.
After this, we cut to the original cast members (Courtney Cox, Neve Campbell, and David Arquette) informing one another about the attacks and how they are happening again. We are then introduced to the new characters of this movie and see how some are attacked by Ghostface.
With the final seconds of the trailer, we get to see Sydney in Stewie’s house from the original Scream! And with further research, the description for this movie talks about Woodsboro’s deadly past. This, in my opinion, is a great way to connect this movie to the original yet still reveal new information to the audience and keep it fresh.
I have a very strong feeling this movie will… kill… to say the least. The cast looks great with well-known stars such as Jenna Ortega and Dylan Minnette and even the returning cast members in addition to the promising storyline.
Along with a new more modern cast and characters trying to survive Ghostface’s reign of terror the poster teases, “The killer is on this poster,” leaving, not just myself, but every Scream fan theorizing about who the killer could be.
One thing is for certain though, Scream fans everywhere are thrilled for a continuation of the franchise. Make sure to buy your tickets for this exclusive movie in theaters on Jan. 14, 2022!
