The Chaotic Aftermath of the Election

We’re not even one month into 2021 and so many things have happened. Most of them have been dealing with politics and the election that took place in November. But one of the major ones that happened was the riots at the capitol building in Washington D.C. This riot caused a lot of chaos for the inauguration that was on the 20th.

On January 6th, a mob stormed the capitol building in Washington D.C. in hopes of overturning the 2020 presidential election. Many know that Joseph R. Biden won the election and would become the 46th president of the United States. However, some believed that the current president, Donald Trump, won the election and that it was stolen from him and his supporters. In a rage, Trump’s supporters started a riot at the capitol building at around 3:00 pm EST.

It started with people chanting outside the building and then quickly turned into people breaking windows, doors, and overall destroying the building. Many started entering the building with American flags. The rioting lasted several hours with police force and security trying to hold off the crowd from moving inside. Mayor Muriel Bowser placed a curfew on the city set for 6:00 pm EST. If anyone was outside or still at the capitol would be arrested, yet some still stood their ground outside the capitol. Trump “fueled” the rioters as he said in a speech before the riots to “save our democracy.” After the riots, Trump was banned from enormous social media platforms like Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and many more. As of January 16th, 5 were left killed from this event. As Biden’s inauguration came, many Americans were scared of someone hurting the President-Elect but 100 million dollars was the budget for the security to ensure that Joe Biden and Kamala Harris were the next President and Vice President of the United States.

The Inauguration was on January 20th, at 10:30 am EST with Biden giving a speech on how he plans to defeat the Coronavirus pandemic and heal the broken parts of the nation to be together again.

After his speech, many celebrities made their appearances as they sang songs to celebrate the event. Lady Gaga sang the “National Anthem” and Jennifer Lopez sang “This Land Is Your Land”. Soon after these songs, Kamala Harris was sworn in as the new Vice President and then followed by Joe Biden as the new President. Many Americans were thrilled to have a new President in charge of their country and felt safe. Former Presidents Barack Obama, George W. Bush, and Bill Clinton accompanied Joe Biden and Kamala Harris as they visited Arlington National Cemetery to lay a wreath on the tomb of the unknown soldier.

At 3:15 pm, Tony Goldwyn hosted the “Parade Across America” which celebrated President Biden’s victory. Because of Coronavirus, only the press and families of the President and Vice President were allowed in person but many watched it on television. Other guests like Nathan Apodaca or better known as “DoggFace” from Tik Tok and Jon Stewart also took part in the parade.

Later that night, at 8:30 pm to be exact, Tom Hanks hosted a 90-minute show called “Celebrating America”. This was where, as the name suggests, President Biden and Vice President Harris celebrated their victory in the 2020 Presidential election. Many different celebrities were also featured on this show such as Katy Perry, Jon Bon Jovi, Foo Fighters, Justin Timberlake, and many more. Any and all Americans watching were invited to celebrate with them from the comfort of their own home due to the COVID-19 pandemic and that the President, Vice President, celebrities, and the press were only allowed in person.

As of January 27th, Biden has been the President for a whole week now and he has done so many things since. One of the things he did was revoke the transgender military ban. This prohibited trans people from joining the military but now they can again with the thanks of Joe Biden. Some other things he did were stopping construction on the southern border wall, abolish the ban of immigrants from certain Muslim countries, and signed an order to rejoin the Paris Agreement to cut back on carbon emissions. Biden has done a lot of things since he was sworn in office on the 20th, and he’s continuing to change something every day. Too much chaos has happened in 2020 but we can’t change the past, we can only hope the rest of this year will be better.
