Teaching at Cherokee has impacted my life because it’s not just me teaching. It’s me teaching and learning every day, so I learn about the students and I learn with the students. I might be a teacher of Spanish, but I am an educator, so I like to prepare my kids for life . . I don’t know how much Spanish they’re going to remember . . . but I like to really, really get into them the sense of being kind to each other, and to be open to opportunities, and to new people, and to new traditions and cultures because I believe that we are more similar than different no matter where we’re coming from, so in the same way, I’m learning so much from them, and I believe that the day I stop learning from them, that’s the day I need to stop teaching.
