Students prepare to deliver gifts to Home Instead Senior Care

As the holiday season kicked off, a project called, Be A Santa To A Senior, was mentioned throughout Cherokee’s hallways. This service project at Cherokee gives students the opportunity to buy gifts for a specific senior citizen that would otherwise receive nothing. Cherokee students are given the opportunity to pick from a couple hundred seniors by receiving tags shaped as light bulbs at Renaissance meetings. On the tags are possible gift ideas that are relatively inexpensive and would mean a lot to the recipient. After purchasing a gift, students wrap them and then turn them in to one of the various Renaissance advisers.

However, this project extends so much farther than just throughout Cherokee’s hallways. Be A Santa To A Senior was started in 2003 by Home Instead Senior Care, a non-medical, in-home care service for senior citizens. Headquartered in Nebraska, Home Instead is an international care service with more than 1,000 offices, worldwide. The project has provided senior citizens all around the world with about 1.2 million gifts. Tags can be found in libraries, malls, and even jewelry stores, so next holiday season, go out and help bring much joy to a senior citizen!
